Art in the places people move through every day

Blank Walls works with shopping centres, transport hubs, retail landlords and public realm teams to create murals and artwork that transform the everyday spaces people pass through — and rarely look twice at.

From station concourses and car parks to high streets, underpasses and retail destinations, we turn functional, overlooked space into something with character, identity and a reason to take notice.

The spaces people use most, designed to be noticed

These are the highest-footfall spaces there are — and usually the most neglected. A car park, a subway, a tired stretch of mall. The right artwork changes how all of it feels to move through.

Retail and transit spaces use artist-led artwork to:

  • Lift footfall areas and dead zones — car parks, underpasses, stairwells, concourses

  • Create a sense of place and local identity

  • Improve the everyday experience for commuters, shoppers and visitors

  • Deter vandalism and anti-social behaviour

  • Aid wayfinding and bring clarity to confusing spaces

  • Reflect the community a place serves

  • Create standout moments that get shared

  • Refresh a destination without major capital works

Built for busy, demanding spaces

These environments come with real constraints — public access, foot traffic, durability, safety, and surfaces that aren't always paint-friendly.

It's exactly what we're set up for. We plan installation around live operation, work out of hours where needed, and choose the right method for the job — hand-painted where it counts, or designed and printed onto vinyl or durable panels for ceilings, glass, metal and awkward spaces. Whatever the surface, the work is original and made for the place.

OUr role

  • Approvals, access and safety planning

  • Materials and production — painted or printed

  • Phased, out-of-hours installation to minimise disruption

SELECTED PROJECTS

  • "I just wanted to write to you all to say a BIG congratulations on delivering an amazing inaugural No More Blank Walls Festival! I was in and around Mt Lawley every other day and got to see pretty much everything in action, from the artists at work, to the gallery, the walking tours, the opening event, and the artists talks. I don’t know if I can say I have ever met such a great bunch of people – you guys, all the artists, and the extended crew. I left the artists talks feeling privileged to hear from such authentic and passionate creative human-beings and feeling that our future is in good hands. I hope you are all getting to enjoy some perspective on what you created and the legacy you have left in and around the town centre, both in people’s memories and in the diverse artworks. I also hope you are getting to recharge after a pretty marathon lead in. Not to mention welcoming new babies and travelling all the way from the UK. I am feeling super proud that the City was able to support you in bringing your vision to life!"

  • "Working with Blank Walls was an absolute pleasure, and the results speak for themselves. They provided a range of artists for me to choose from based on a brief, the provided project management services on site, organised the boom lift and traffic management and were flexible and pleasant to work with throughout the duration of this project. Thank you for an amazing mural!"
