Painted by our founder and renowned Perth-based artist Jerome Davenport, A Symmetry of Age, Beauty and Wisdom is a large-scale mural created for Olive st Subiaco — Devwest’s new development on the historic site of the former Corner Gallery. Produced by Blank Walls, the artwork pays homage to the enduring elegance of Subiaco’s Art Deco architecture, blending contemporary street art with themes of legacy, identity, and placemaking.

Spanning two distinct panels, the mural features portraits of two women—one young, one elderly—each partially rendered in a stained-glass style. The use of stained-glass elements reflects the area’s architectural history while also symbolising reflection, light, and transformation. For Jerome, the pairing of the figures represents the passing of time, knowledge, and intergenerational wisdom. “It’s not just a visual tribute,” he said, “but a meditation on the wisdom of the past, the beauty of the present, and the connection that holds them together.”

The mural carries a sense of inner calm and symmetry that resonates with the community’s spirit, honouring both the site’s artistic past and its future as a place for connection and creativity. Commissioned by Devwest as part of their commitment to high-quality, integrated public art, this piece contributes to the cultural fabric of Subiaco and helps redefine the area as a contemporary arts precinct.
